Final Artist Statement

Throughout the year I learned to like my portfolio a lot and you can see all the hard work I put in my pictures. 2nd semester of photo class I was determined to work harder and get more acquainted with Photoshop and my ideals. From the blow out and panning pictures to my quilt squares you can see that I have a strong emphasis in all my pictures.

I think I was mostly successful with my quilt squares because those are my dreams onto squares. My past, present, and future has some type of strong meaning. I had the most fun with my quilt square inside of me. On my inside of my quilt I had a somewhat angel like photo with a black background and me in my football uniform. On this picture I have the world on my shoulders and it feels like that because of school, sports, family and etc.

I’ll say I struggled the most on 2 things, panning and my senior portfolio show pictures. On the senior portfolio picture I really was out of ideals and didn’t know what to do. And for the first time I ran out of ideals. 2nd was panning, trying to capture a moving object was pretty hard for me because I had to do a lot of adjustments to the camera and really had to focus on moving the camera while the object was moving.

Taking this class it changed my whole perspective on the art world. At the beginning I really didn’t pay attention to art and after a whole school year in here I want to get out of the country and go see all these beautiful places in the world. For example I want to see the famous statue, “The Thinker” located in Musee Rodin, Paris. I really like the meaning of the statue because you can look at the statue and apply it anyway you would like to in life in general.

Blowout and Panning

On the blowout effect I used the iso and aperture features. I think this is the best way because the iso is the amount of light the camera lets in. In blowout, you can see that there is a lot of light that the camera lets in. So you can really get a bright picture in any kind of setting your in.

Panning is basically when you turn the shutter speed up higher, and you follow the subject's movement with your camera. You can't take a regular picture without moving the camera and capturing the object or person that is moving. Also it allows the camera to focus more on the subject of the picture. Panning was kind of difficult because I had to mess with the settings and really didn't know how to mess with the settings and what not. So that probably was the most diffiuclt for me taking the picture of my partner.

Shutter Speed

Shutter speed determines how long that light can affect the pupil of the camera. Shutter speed also works because if your in a dark setting like we were in the because the dark room had some kind of light. In shutter mode your in charge of the Iso and Shutter and the camera takes care of the camera aperture. The shutter was 2 seconds so it wouldn't be that dark nor blurry.

Aperture

Aperture, aperture is the size of the hole that light travels through and changes depth of field. As you can see in the picture of the cat the eyes of the cat really comes out and the tone of it. And for the flower picture you really can see the definition of the flower and its color. For a bigger picture you would use the F2 because of the lighting. And for a smaller picture you would use an F22.

ISO

Some people may not know what ISO is. ISO is described as International Standardization for Organization. The difference between ISO 5000 photos and Flash photos is the ISO on the camera has a stronger flash and a better focus than a regular flash. ISO flash won't create a distracting reflection nor create ugly lighting situation. When your using ISO you have to be careful that you or the person your taking the picture of doesn't move or it will come out blurry, create a red eye or it will be dark. ISO is the speed of the camera. You can see the difference in all the ISO photos because the stronger the lens the faster the ISO will be and the better picture you will get. And also it depends on the setting and place your in.

Flash

There's a lot of pros and cons on using the flash on the camera. But I think there's more cons then pros, for example a pro on flash is it adds light and freezes time. But on the other side the cons it may disturb your subject. It creates ugly lighting situations and distracting reflections. But flash is a good idea when your in a dark place. Flash is not a good idea when your trying to take a picture with glasses on because it will reflect a glare and sometimes will create the red eye. I think the picture I chose is better for not the flash being used because you can see the marsiupal or whatever that is pretty good. With the flash on who knows it would probably create an ugly lighting situations.

Metering

Light meter helps alot when your trying to take pictures in the dark. What light metering does is keeps the shutter down when your trying to take the picture. In the first picture the reflection of the glasses doesn't glare as much as the 2nd picture below.

Surrealism: Football n the desert

This person see’s life as a dry concrete desert. There are many obstacles the young man has to go through everyday just to survive.

Surreal Practice Tutorials

On the desert photo we worked more on the emphasis and the ground. As you can see there are different colors going up the photo and to the sky. The sky even changes colors as we worked on the desert photo in the picture. This photo helped me by giving me ideas on what to do on my surreal photo.

Determined Man

Overall everything in my determined man photo has a meaning to the picture that you will look at. I feel pretty good about my picture, My most successful picture in the portfolio is my determined man picture. Because it describes me pretty good and what I go through almost everyday. The meaning describes me and I feel good when people look at my picture.

Senior Portfolio Show

I think the strength of my portfolio was the school and and my Pegasus because I changed the layer style on both of them. So I think that was my strongest part of my portfolio. After looking at the other students stuff I could of had a better plan of my ideas and executing them.

Personal Quilt

Over the 2 months I learned a lot more about Photoshop and how to use it. At the beginning of the project I had no clue what to think of or to do. But over the 2 months I am pretty happy about what I did, even though my great ideas came and went I’m still happy of what I did. I was kind of surprised of what people thought of me on the outside. But it’s a good thing so I really didn’t worry about my outside of me quilt that much. I think my best quilt is the inside of me quilt. It’s pretty simple but has a great reflection of me and how I feel about football and the world.

I think my least favorite quilt was my cartoon one, It was a good ideal and everything and now that I look back it I really don’t like it to much because I felt I could of done a lot better job of constructing the picture. But my cartoon (outside of me quilt) was the quilt I struggled with the most. Visually I like all my quilts I believe that all my quilts have a good meaning to them. For example, my past quilt, I was a king when I was baby but I was dethroned by my little sisters when they were born. As you look at that one you can tell I had the royal blood in me.

Was I honest in all my quilts? Well for the most part yes. I really wasn’t true to myself on creating the cartoon. I mean it was a good ideal and all but I didn’t know what to about it. So I just thought of some ideas and let it be. But other than that I was true to all my other quilts.

When comparing my quilts there are a lot of differences in them. For example, my past and future quilt has no comparison at all. When I was a baby I was treated like a king and all not having to worry about nothing really. And in my future quilt I grew a lot over the years turning into the ambitious person I am today. Being the most active person in the family and all.

But overall I had fun, it was frustrating at times and wanted to give up Photoshop. But I have some great ideas on my quilts that nobody would have thought of. Even thought the quilts were very time consuming it was a learning curve for me in Photoshop.
